It is our great pleasure to welcome back Keith, who was our first “big name” speaker back in June 2020.  In his last talk Keith demonstrated some key principles of pawn structure in endings.  This time he will talk about some of his own games that illustrate Positional & Tactical Motifs.   Keith welcomes as much audience participation as possible and would be very happy to answer questions about the talk and about other topics.

Keith gained his IM title in 1985, then became England’s 26th GM in 1995. His was English Chess Champion on 2008 and European Senior Chess Champion in 2014. His latest achievement in a long and successful career was winning the 2nd British Online Championship this August ahead of a strong field including Mickey Adams.

GM Danny Gormally – some of his games from Blackpool Congress

March 15 @ 8:00 pm 10:00 pm GMT

GM Danny Gormally gives a talk about how GMs prepare for chess tournaments. He illustrates this with several games from the 2022 Blackpool Congress.

In an interview by the ECF they described Danny as follows: “GM Danny Gormally is a rare and welcome maverick in England Chess. His no-nonsense approach to putting the game’s and society’s wrongs to right, along with his quirky writing and commentary style provide a refreshing alternative to the rather staid image often associated with chess.”

Once upon a time, before the days of strong analysis engines, correspondence chess was a worthy activity for players to learn openings, practise middlegame and endings.

Strong correspondence players tended to be potentially strong OTB players.

Colin Lyne will take us through some his earliest postal games.

You are welcome to join Camberley Chess Club’s online Zoom meetings, just email info@camberleychess.co.uk
