2024 Jan Junior Tournament

Another very successful Junior 5 round rapid play Swiss tournament was held in the Band Room at Gordon’s School. There were a record number of entrants.

Well done to all the juniors, the standard of their chess playing has continued to improve. These events are all ECF rated, so the games will go into the ECF rating system.

Thanks to Jon Lloyd and Liam Ball for their excellent running of this and the previous tournaments.

Also thanks to Warren Wright, Steve Harley and Martin Wallman of Camberley Chess Club for their assistance on the day and in promoting these events.

Camberley Chess Club member Aditya Sengupta wins tournament

Twenty three year 6 and secondary school aged children took part in a third chess tournament held at Gordon’s School, Woking on 18th March 2023. The tournament was free to enter and aimed at beginners to tournament chess. There were six rounds of twenty minute games all of which were keenly contested, with a noticeable increase in quality of play compared to previous tournaments.

Camberley Chess Club had several juniors playing in the tournament including Imandi Jayasinghe, Lavandi Jayasinghe, Leo Beattie, Lowen Thorpe and Aditya Sengupta.

Each participant received a medal and Aditya Sengupta was awarded with the winner’s trophy. Parents commented how wonderful it is to organise such an event.

The next tournament is due to take place on 13th May 2023.

Thanks go to Jon Lloyd for organising the event and well done to all participants and in particular to the overall winner Aditya Sengupta seen below.
