ECF Club of the Year Presentation

Camberley Chess Club are very proud to have received the ECF Club of the Year Award.

The award trophy was presented to the club on behalf of the ECF by IM Andrew Martin at Camberley Chess Club’s home location on Thursday 21st October 2021.

IM Andrew Martin praised the committee and club’s achievements over the last year.

On receiving the award, Chairperson Martin Wallman thanked Andrew for presenting the award and thanked all the club members who had contributed with their hard work, particularly the committee members Steve Harley (secretary), Paul Sloane (last year’s Treasurer) and John Upham. A special thanks went to all the presenters who contributed their time.

An Evening with David Howell

We are excited to announce that Grandmaster David Howell will be our star guest on 18th May.  David is the UK number 2, was this country’s youngest GM at the age of 16, and has been British champion 3 times.  He will talk us through some games and there will be a Q&A session where members can ask questions.

IM Nigel Povah

Brush up your Endings skills with IM Nigel Povah

On Tuesday 11th May we are delighted that Nigel Povah from Guildford Chess Club will speak to us.  Nigel is a very experienced International Master, Correspondence Grandmaster and respected author.  He will give a lecture about endings, including some key concepts, illustrative games and problems for the audience to solve.

Aberdeen Chess Club v Camberley Chess Club

Following our recent victory against Isle of Wight Chess Club, On Tuesday 4th May a team of 10 from CCC will play an online match versus The Bon Accord Chess Club Aberdeen on Chess.com.  Each player will play two games against the same opponent at a time limit of 20 mins plus 10 sec increment. 

In parallel there will be a Zoom meeting where a running commentary on the games will be given by experienced club members.  The commentary will be pitched at beginners and intermediate players to help them understand the games.
