Now is a great time to join Camberley Chess Club online. We have a series of excellent guest speakers lined up this month. On Tuesday 5th IM Matthew Wadsworth will talk to us about games from recent Varsity matches. Then in the subsequent 3 weeks GM Peter Wells, IM Nigel Povah and FM Hamish Olson will join us. Later in the season an impressive list of GM’s and IM’s will be speaking, including Mickey Adams, David Howell, Danny King, Jim Plaskett and Danny Gormally. All this for an annual membership of just £25. See our events listing and membership details on our website at https://camberleychess.co.uk/
There was a great turnout at the Camberley Market on Saturday 21st August 2021 and many people stopped to enjoy a game of chess or chat to members of Camberley Chess Club.
There were many members of the public who on seeing the boards all setup to play rekindled their interest in chess, others who were beginners, others experienced. Also it was nice to see some old members again as well as recently joined members.
It was very interesting to meet people who have learnt to play chess online, often in the last year or less, and had never played with a set of chess pieces, on a board, sitting opposite their opponent!
It also gave the club an opportunity to let Camberley know that we have been awarded Club of the Year by the English Chess Federation.
Camberley Chess Club are proud to have been awarded the Club of the Year by the English Chess Federation (ECF).
Thank you to our members, online members, online presenters, special guests and everyone who has supported us over the last year.
Thank you to the ECF for this award.

On Sunday 6th June we had an exciting match between Camberley Chess Club and Nairobi Chess Club.
It was played on chess.com, but due to the constraints of this platform, each of the 10 Camberley players had to challenge their Nairobi opponents individually.
Two games with a time control of 25 minutes plus an increment of 5 seconds per move were played.
