2025 – 2026 Club Championship

All tournament pairings and results will be visible on both chess-results.com and the ECF LMS website

Format

  • The 2025/26 Club Championship will consist of a single-division Swiss played over 7 rounds. Pairings will be made using Swiss Manager.
  • Time control will be 80 + 10 (80 minutes for each player plus 10 second increment per move). Juniors can request their opponent to play 65 + 10 if they prefer so that they can finish earlier.
  • Results will be submitted to the ECF Standard rating list.
  • Each round will last roughly one month (or just over a month), during which time entrants can play their game on any Thursday on which they and their opponent are available.
  • HALF-POINT BYES: players can request up to two half-point byes in rounds 1-5. No half-point byes will be offered for rounds 6 and 7. Requests must be received in advance of the round pairings being made.
  • Once the pairings for each round have been made, entrants will have to contact their opponent to schedule their match. If an entrant has been paired in a particular round, but is subsequently unable to play on any of the available nights prior to the end of the round, then that player will receive a zero-point default and their opponent a full-point default. If two players who are paired together find that they are unable to make it to the club on the same night for whatever reason, then they can agree to a half-point default of their game.
  • The Gordon Birch Shield will be awarded to the highest finishing player rated under a particular rating cutoff. This rating cutoff will be announced once all entrants have been received.
