2024 Camberley Keith Richardson Rapid Play Tournament
The 2024 Keith Richardson Memorial Tournament was held on Saturday 28th Sep at Camberley Chess Club. Keith was a valued club member from the 1970s, an International Correspondence Grandmaster and very well known in the English chess community. He played for the club right up to his death in 2017. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease and a significant contribution to Parkinson’s UK will be made from this events proceeds.

This was the 7th time this event has been staged and we had a record number of 60 entrants, many of whom have played in this event in previous years. There were 18 Junior entries.
It was a very strong field of players, with around 10 players over 1900 rapid rated including two International Masters, one FIDE Master and one Arena Candidate Master.
The whole tournament was closely fought, with the winners only decided in the last round and by tie breaks.
Special thanks to Ken Coates and Thomas West for doing an excellent job as tournament arbiters, Linda Wooding for kindly keeping us supplied with tea, coffee and cakes on the day, Martin Wallman and Steve Harley for organising the event and everyone who helped setting up and clearing away on the day.
Thanks to all the participants for supporting this event and making it so friendly and enjoyable. The 2025 event is planned for the last Saturday in September.
